A new project funded through the Erasmus+ programme has been launched! The MiCare - Migrant Training in Caregiving project, has been implemented to run from December 2019 until December 2021 and aims to train migrants in order to work as caregivers for older people and people with care needs. Erasmus+ is the European Union's (EU) programme for education, training, youth and sport, with the EU committing £12 billion to the programme between 2014 and 2020. The project is funded under Key Action 2 - Strategic Partnerships for adult education.

 

The consortium consists of 7 partners from 6 European countries, Cyprus, Greece, Spain, Italy, UK and Germany, covering a wide geographical range of Europe. All project partners are organisations with long-standing experience in the fields of migration, training, caregiving and communication. Age Concern Birmingham (UK), the leader of the project, is a non-profit organisation aiming to enrich the lives of older people through a range of services. The other partners of the project are VHS Cham (Germany), CESIE (Italy), AKMI (Greece), the University of Alicante (Spain), The Cyprus Third Age Observatory (Cyprus) and DIAS Media Group (Cyprus). The general objective of the project is to research labour market needs and achieve a better match between the skills and demands in the EU's labour markets by recruiting new migrant workers with the appropriate set of skills, to meet the demands and shortages of the European labour market in caregiving.
